CAPT. Jeffrey Melody, Chief of Staff

Captain Jeffrey A. Melody of Youngstown, Ohio graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1996. Following commissioning, he reported to Pensacola, Florida for aviation training and was designated a Naval Aviator in August 1998. 

Captain Melody’s sea assignments include HSL-45 June 1999, where he received the NHA embarked Aircrew of the Year award for operations in the Persian Gulf; USS TARAWA (LHA 1) April 2005; HSL-47 April 2007, assigned to Carrier Air Wing TWO (CVW 2) with Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, and HSM-75 “Wolf Pack” December 2014 – March 2016, assigned to CVW 11 with Nimitz Carrier Strike Group.  During this command tour, the Wolf Pack flew 5,096 mishap free flight hours and executed missions in the Third and Seventh Fleet area of operations

Shore assignments include the U.S. Naval Academy Faculty, the HSM Pacific Fleet Replacement Squadron (HSM-41), United States Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany, and the Pentagon Joint Chiefs (JCS) of Staff J5-Directorate-Strategic Plans and Policy, as the War Plans Global Posture Branch Chief.

Captain Melody reported to Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing, Pacific as the Deputy Commander in May 2018, and was the Commander from December 2019 to June 2021.  His education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ocean Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Masters of Science in Engineering Management from the George Washington University. 

Captain Melody reported as Chief of Staff for Carrier Strike Group FIFTEEN in June 2021.

Captain Melody’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and various unit commendations and service/campaign awards.
